Simple English vs Linguistics Verbiage

Here I show the description of the exercise above in simple and academic verbiage.

Simple English
This exercise is designed to increase your reading abilities, because you need to understand what the sentence is saying, before rearranging the sentence in a correct way. Also you will practice the use of correct syntax, such as choosing the best pattern for each example.

There is also one more exercise on the bottom that tests you ability to tell the difference between two very similar words. This will make you use the dictionary, and thus increase your vocabulary.

Academic Text
In this example, you need to rearrange sentences into the standard English conventional grammar. The reader will envisage the single sentence in the believed customary order of words. First, there is a need to do a serious examination of meaning, a mental construct or judgement of what the writer was trying to express. Then, you will need to again appraise and evaluate the denotations and connotations of each word, in order to accurately infer the semantic relation. Lastly, the reader will set up and adjust the content of the grammatical relation, alas achieving the intended signification. It is tricky if the reader is not used to standard English grammatical form. The usual sentence pattern places the subject, verb, object, complement, and/or adverbial in that order; although, sentences can have alternative structures.

The sheet also has another exercise, which asks the reader to discern the accepted standards of English conventions. Specifically, it asks for your input when selecting the right subject-verb agreement, parallel structure, and word usage.
